Chinese Art (Pottery)

The Oriental way or also be called by Chinese Art is to discount the observed natural phenomenon, to seek the essence of life i intuitively apprehended values, in spiritual intimations and in the abstract elements of color and creative formal organization. Eastern art, less obviously humanistic, natural, intellectual and feeds the spirit. Its glories are achieved in the realms of the abstract, the contemplatively mystical and the richly sensuous.

What is porcelain?

In ceramic art, the Porcelain is a type of translucent shell. It describes any ceramic ware that is white and translucent, no matter what ingredients it contains or what it is made for. It was fired at a higher temperature. The porcelain clay body is usually heated in a kiln to between 1,200 and 1,400 degree Celsius. These temperature cause the formation of glass and other chemical compounds, which is turn gives the porcelain its toughness, strength and translucence.

Ancient Chinese Ceramic

Chinese ceramics is famous for its exquisite forms, shapes, finishes and delicate use of color. Great works of art were patronizes by the imperial court and the upper and sought after outside of China in Europe and other places.

A fine white pottery was made during the Shang Dynasty. Many vessels were similar in size and shape to bronze vessels made during the same period. Scholars believe the bronze vessels were likely copies of ceramic vessels.

Many great works of pottery and ceramic art came from Han Dynasty  ( 206 B.C " A.D 220). Lovely vessels  and objects were buried with dead and have been excavated by archaeologists. The first use of glazes on Chinese pottery dates back to this period. Beautiful figures, particularly of animals were created during six dynasties period (A.D 220-587).

Song Dynasty Porcelain (960-1279)

Celadon is a green porcelain made with a slip and glaze, sometimes with incised and inlaid decorations. It is associated with both China and Korea. Wonderful cracked glazed pottery, produced by the shrinking and cracking of the glazes due to rapid cooling, appeared during the Song period.

Ju ware, a kind of celadon from the Northern Song Dynasty that ranges in color from blue to green, is the rarest of all forms of porcelain. Only 65 pieces of it exist and 23 of them are possessed by the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

Roman Art (Architecture)

Roman art is a very broad topic. The first Roman art can be dated back to 509 B.C.E with the legendary founding of the Roman Republic. Roman art also encompasses a broad spectrum of media including marble, painting, architecture, mosaic, gems ect.

Rome's greatest contribution to the history of art is undoubtedly to be found in the field of architectural design. Roman architecture during the age of the Republic discovered the round temple and the curved arch but after the turn of the Millennium, Roman architects and engineers developed techniques for urban building on a massive scale.

The eraction of monumental structures like the Pantheon and the Colosseum would have been impossible without Rome's development of the arch and the dome as well as its mastery of strong and low-cost materials like concrete and bricks.

Roman colosseum

Built in the centre of Rome by Vesapsian to appease the masses, this architecture was name after a colossal statue of Nero that stood nearby. Built to seat some 50,000 spectators, its intricate design along with its model system of tiered seating and spacious passageways, makes it one of the greatest works of Roman architecture.

Colosseum is an elliptical building measuring 189 meters long and 156 meters wide with a base area of 24,000 m square a height of more than 48 meter. It took 10 years to build starting in 70AD and was completed in 80AD using over 60,000 Jewish slaves.

Rome's most popular monument was built for three reasons. As a gift to the Roman citizens from the Flavian Dynasty to increase their popularity , to stage various forms of entertainment and to showcase Roman engineering techniques to the world.
